Cruise named next director of Center on Children, Families and the Law

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has selected Dr. Keith Cruise as the new director of its Center on Children, Families and the Law. Alongside this leadership role, Cruise will join the faculty as a professor of psychology within the College of Arts and Sciences. He is set to officially take over the position on August 17.

Cruise brings a strong background in clinical psychology and legal systems to the center. His research has focused on juvenile justice, mental health assessments for youth, and the intersection of psychology with family law. University officials noted that his experience aligns well with the center's mission to improve outcomes for children and families through research, training, and policy work.

The Center on Children, Families and the Law operates as an interdisciplinary hub. It brings together experts from law, psychology, social work, and other fields to address complex issues affecting vulnerable populations. Cruise will oversee ongoing projects and collaborations with state agencies and community partners.

In a statement, Cruise expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity. He highlighted the center's reputation for producing practical, evidence-based solutions. He also emphasized his commitment to mentoring students and expanding research that directly impacts child welfare and family court systems. The appointment marks a new chapter for the center as it continues to address pressing challenges in Nebraska and beyond.
