LSUS’s School Psychology program conducting free development and readiness assessments for young children

Parents in Northwest Louisiana now have access to free developmental and school readiness assessments for their young children through the LSU Shreveport School Psychology program. The screenings are available for children between the ages of 2 and 6, offering families a no-cost way to check on key milestones before kindergarten.

The assessments look at areas like speech, motor skills, social-emotional growth, and early learning concepts. Graduate students in the school psychology program conduct the evaluations under the supervision of licensed faculty. This gives the students hands-on training while providing a valuable service to the community.

According to program coordinators, early identification of potential delays can make a big difference. When parents know where their child stands, they can seek support or enrichment activities sooner. The goal is to help children enter school ready to learn.

Appointments are required, and the screenings take about an hour. Results are shared with parents right after the session, along with suggestions if any follow-up is needed. The program runs throughout the academic year, with slots available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Families interested in signing up can contact the LSUS School Psychology clinic directly for more details. No insurance or referral is needed.
