Feeling burned out by dating apps? Relationship coach Amy Chan suggests stepping away from the screen and focusing on what you actually like to do. According to Chan, joining activities you genuinely enjoy can help you meet new people while taking the pressure off dating.
Chan explains that when you show up to a hobby or interest group, the focus shifts away from trying to impress someone. Instead, you are simply there to have fun. This natural setting makes conversations easier and more authentic. "It takes the pressure off," she says, adding that it "makes you enjoy life" in the process.
She recommends looking for local clubs, volunteer opportunities, or classes centered on things like hiking, cooking, or book discussions. The key is to choose something you would do anyway, even if you did not meet anyone. When you are engaged in an activity you love, you come across as more relaxed and confident. That is often more attractive than a polished dating profile.
Chan also notes that these real-world interactions help you build a social circle first. Friendships can lead to introductions, and shared interests create a strong foundation for any potential relationship. Instead of swiping through endless profiles, you get to connect with people who already share your passions. It is a slower, more meaningful way to meet someone, and it reminds you that your life is full and interesting on its own.
