Russia continues to wage a parallel war against Ukraine in the information space, relying on psychological operations designed to intimidate citizens, discredit the authorities, and erode trust in the country's defense forces. These efforts are not random. They follow a deliberate strategy that targets emotions, exploits uncertainty, and sows division within society.
One of the primary goals is to spread fear. False reports about breakthroughs at the front, mass casualties, or imminent attacks are circulated to create panic. Another objective is to undermine confidence in the government and military leadership by amplifying internal disagreements and presenting them as evidence of incompetence or betrayal.
Russian propaganda also works to exhaust the public. Constant exposure to alarming and contradictory news makes people numb, apathetic, and less willing to support mobilization or volunteer efforts. In this environment, rumors and conspiracy theories spread quickly, often faster than official clarifications.
Countering these operations requires more than fact checking. It demands media literacy, critical thinking, and a shared understanding that information itself is a battlefield. Ukrainians are urged to verify sources, avoid sharing unconfirmed reports, and recognize manipulation when they see it.
